The upcoming Women’s Junior Asia Cup 2023 hockey tournament will take place in Kakamigahara, Japan from June 2 – 11.
Teams and pools
There are ten teams competing in the tournament divided into two pools:

Pool A | India, Malaysia, Chinese Taipei, South Korea and Uzbekistan |
Pool B | Japan, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, China |
Five of the participating countries – India, China, Korea, Japan, and Malaysia – received a direct entry from their world rankings. Meanwhile, the remaining five countries – Kazakhstan, Hong Kong China, Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan and Indonesia – qualified through the Women’s Junior AHF Cup, which took place in Taldykorgan Kazakhstan back in October last year.
Women’s Junior Asia Cup 2023 hockey format
The Women’s Junior Asia Cup 2023 hockey will begin a with a single-legged round-robin stage format. Following the end of the league stage, the top two sides from each pool will then move to the semi-finals. Meanwhile, the third and fourth-placed teams will compete for the fifth to eighth-rank classification. The fifth-placed teams in both pools will compete against one another for the ninth and 10th spots. The semi-finals round will be direct knockout rounds where the winners will proceed to the finals. On the other hand, the losers will compete for the third spot.
The top three countries at the end of the upcoming tournament will qualify for the FIH Women’s Junior Hockey World Cup 2023 later this year.
Going into the tournament, four-time champions South Korea, and three-time champions China are the two favourites to win. China are the hosts and also the defending champions. India have so far never won the Women’s Junior Asia Cup, with the closest being a runners-up finish back in 2012.
