Alyssa Healy will lead the Australian women with Tahlia McGrath as vice-captain, across all the three formats as Meg Lanning continues to miss out due to injury. Meanwhile, Heather Knight will lead the England women as their captain.

Women’s Ashes 2023 format

The 2023 Women’s Ashes will follow the usual multi-format structure starting with a Test match. The two teams will then compete in three T20Is and three ODIs. Both teams will get four points for winning the Test match, and two points for winning each of the limited-overs matches.

If a match ends a no-result, a draw (the Test match), or a tie, both teams will share points. There are 16 points up for grabs, as such, the team that first reaches nine points will win the series. The first Test match in the series will take place over five days, unlike the usual four-day format for women’s Tests.

Women’s Ashes 2023 competition history

Australia and England played their first ever women’s Test match, way back in 1934/35. However, the Women’s Ashes was officially coined much later only in 1998. Moreover, both the teams started competing in the current multi-format Ashes series only since 2013.

England won the first ever multi-format 2013 Women’s Ashes 12-4 at home, and then retained the following year with a 10-8 win. Meanwhile, Australia clinched their first multi-format win in 2015 with a 10-6 win in England. They managed to retain the title with an 8-8 drawn series at home in 2016/17. Australia further extended their hold over the Women’s Ashes title with 12-4 wins, in England in 2019 and at home in 2021/22. Australia currently holds an overall record of 54-42 (28-20 at home, 26-22 in England) across the six editions.
