Musk, meanwhile, refers to the ability of an idea to spread swiftly through society by using the phrase “virus.” He is contrasting the propagation of an ideology with, for instance, the transmission of COVID-19 during the pandemic or persuading people to believe a specific way, maybe incorporating the image of a “zombie virus,” or with other factors that influence how people think.

Musk has frequently discussed the “woke mind virus.” Musk claimed in a tweet reply that the “awake mind infection [was] pushing humanity to suicide” in November 2022.
