The closing ceremony for the Gangwon Winter Youth Games, with the theme “Shine Again,” is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. KST on Thursday, according to the organizers and can be viewed on olympics.com. The organising team for Gangwon said in a statement, “The closing ceremony will be about allowing young athletes to reignite the inner light that they discovered during this event. It will signal a time to return to their home countries with a bright light inside everyone.”

Date, time and schedule

The closing ceremony, which is set to take place on Thursday from 8 p.m. to 8:35 p.m., will take place on the open plaza in front of the Gangneung Hockey Centre in Gangneung, about 160 kilometres east of Seoul. At 7:30 p.m., a preshow featuring local DJ K.hertz will commence, during which volunteers will greet athletes at the main event.

A performance by dance group 1Million and rapper Lee Young-ji will take place in front of the competitors and spectators following the main screen showing of the competition’s highlight film, which spans 14 days. Athletes from every continent and sport will thank the volunteers for their work during the closing ceremony, with three athletes from each gender and sport speaking on behalf of all athletes. The closing event is expected to draw about 1,700 guests, according to the organizing committee.

After hosting the first three Winter Youth Olympics in Austria, Norway, and Switzerland, Gangwon 2024 will mark the first Olympics held outside of Europe. This was also the largest Winter Youth Games ever, involving 1,802 competitors from 78 countries.
