Asia has hosted the Winter Youth Olympic Games for the first time, yet it is the continent’s third consecutive major Olympic event. PyeongChang 2018 was home to several of the venues and infrastructure that are currently in operation.

With an emphasis on sports, culture, and education, Gangwon 2024 seeks to further promote social unity and positive transformation in the area. “Grow together, shine forever” is the Gangwon 2024 motto, which was unveiled during the celebration of the 500-day countdown.

While the indoor ice events will be conducted in the neighbouring city of Gangneung, the outdoor mountain events and sliding sports will be held at PyeongChang’s Alpensia Sports Park.

The youth winter multisport competition is set to take place in Gangwon Province, South Korea, from January 19 to February 1, 2024. This will be the first Olympic Games event in history to apply the gender parity rule. It implies that both men’s and women’s Olympic programmes will have the same number of events (34).

There will be 81 events in the schedule for this edition, spanning 7 sports and 15 disciplines. In 2021, the International Olympic Committee made the historic decision to forgo mixed NOCs competitions. The athletic programme had modifications as well, with mixed-gender relays added to the Nordic combined and cross-country skiing events.
