Despite the success of Wimbledon 2021, some suspicious events seems to have taken hogged the limelight with match fixing said to have occurred

While Wimbledon 2021 was a successful event as it produced some of the most thrilling games, a dark side of the tournament has emerged as per the latest developments. A couple of matches are under investigation for potential match-fixing following some irregular betting patterns.

According to Die Welt, they have information of possible manipulations of the grand slam event, including a singles and doubles fixture. It has come to light that several betting firms have reported those matches, owing to a series of abnormal bets.

Details of the Wimbledon 2021 contests under investigation for match fixing

The first match under suspicion is a men’s doubles fixture in the first round. Several betting providers reckoned that the favoured duo would lose due to the noticeably live high bets. The pair won the opening set and lost the remaining ones. Both the timing of the bets and the number of sums put hinted irregularities.

The next game under scrutinization is the first-round singles game, involving a German player. Though the opposition of that player has triggered suspicion, it is revealed that a five-digit sum had been in place at the close of the second set on the exact result.

Furthermore, there were special bets on the number of service games and both of those resulted in victory. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) seems to have already launched the investigation. When asked about these incidents, the association refused to comment on individual cases due to operational reasons. Also, cases are not released for the public until a complete investigation has taken place.

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), in their latest report, revealed they received 11 match alerts between April and June this year. Nine of those fixtures occurred on the ITF circuit and the remaining two took place at the ATP 250 events.
