As of this writing, Netflix has not ordered a second season of Let’s Get Divorced. The format of this show is exactly what causes it to drop the ball. Without a doubt, there was a method to tell this story, but it wouldn’t have lasted for ten hours. Extremely few people outside of die-hard J-drama fans are going to stick with this show through its nine-episode season order and heavy hour-plus runtimes.
Additionally, the series finale of Season 1 served as a creatively satisfying conclusion to the show. No matter how popular the show becomes on the streaming service, which it won’t, the tale can’t possibly progress any further.

To give credit where it’s due and all that. This idea of a failing relationship that is further complicated by two prominent industries, public expectations, and private troubles is intriguing and promising. A full-length picture could have been made with that much promise. Ten hours of programming? No, not at all.
Let’s Get Divorced is both dramatic and comic because of the leads’ exasperating inability to do so in the face of the pull and push of several personal and professional obstacles. Management for Yui doesn’t want the couple to split up because of her popularity as a housewife, while Taishi’s mother bans the divorce to safeguard her son’s election campaign. The couple decides to retain legal counsel despite the difficulties this causes, only to find out that their separate attorneys have romantic histories of their own.
