Before Never Have I Ever’s Season 3 premiere in March 2022, as mentioned in an earlier article, co-creators Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher revealed that the show has been renewed for a fourth and final season.
President of Universal Television, Erin Underhill, reacted to the announcement by saying, “Four seasons of Never Have I Ever is truly exciting and a little bittersweet because, as a devoted fan, I’d love for Devi’s journey to go on forever.” “However, all good things must come to an end, just like in high school. A big thank you to Mindy and Lang, as well as to the outstanding cast and crew who helped us portray the emotional rollercoaster that is a hallmark of adolescence. Devi’s senior year will undoubtedly be filled with mess, laughter, and tears, and we can’t wait to witness them all.”
The fact that Devi and her friends finish their senior year of high school in Season 4 after we’ve spent the series watching them navigate their formative teen years offers a certain amount of closure that makes saying goodbye feel more natural, even though Never Have I Ever won’t have a Season 5. Devi left Sherman Oaks, but we’ll miss her!
What Happened in Never Have I Ever Season 4?
After graduating from Sherman Oaks High School, Devi gets accepted to Princeton. She enjoys a perfect summer with Eleanor and Fabiola ahead of their college years. Devi and her Sherman Oaks crew have a final goodbye celebration at Nirmala and Len’s wedding. Only Ben was able to attend the wedding, as he is spending the summer interning for a law firm in New York.
Nalini helps Devi pack her bag for school and shares special moments with Kamala, Paxton, Fab, and Eleanor.
Additionally, they play “Never Have I Ever,” for the last time, Ben Gross makes a romantic-cometic entrance to confess his love for Devi, to which she confesses she loves him too. They scooter off to Ben’s house, where they spend a passionate night together.
Ben advises them to stay together and try long-distance communication when they wake up in the morning. Devi nods in agreement before leaving for campus with her mother. Devi rushes upstairs before they leave the house to ask, “What’s poppin, gods?”
Rather than asking for smaller pores or a boyfriend who can do one-armed push-ups, she thanks them for her awesome life and loved ones, asks them to take care of her mom while she’s gone, and says, “I’ll see you at Princeton.”
In the closing montage, Nalini and Andres are chatting over wine, Fab is taking robotics classes with Gears, Eleanor is acting with Trent nearby, Paxton is studying at Arizona State, Kamala and Manish are grabbing ice cream (finally! ), and Ben and Devi are cuddling in Devi’s dorm.
