Man city have been charged with financial rule violations.
After a four-year inquiry, it was disclosed on Monday that City has been charged with more than 100 financial rule violations by the Premier League. Due to alleged rule violations between 2009 and 2018, the club has been submitted to an impartial commission.
The club has also been accused of not cooperating from the investigation’s start in December 2018. City runs the risk of facing a harsh penalty from the commission if proven guilty. At this point, the possibility of a fine, a points punishment, or even ejection from the Premier League exists.

Man City claims to be “surprised” by the allegations.
In a statement, Manchester City expressed shock at the revelation of these purported Premier League Rules infractions, especially in light of the league’s extensive engagement and access to a variety of in-depth materials.
However, the club welcomes an independent commission’s study of this issue in order to objectively take into account the substantial body of unchallengeable evidence that exists in support of its stance. As a result, the club now anticipates the issue being resolved definitively.
Could Manchester City be denied by the EFL?
Man City are not assured to play in the Championship, League One, or even League Two if they are demoted from English football’s top level. The EFL would not be required to accept City in the unlikely scenario that the team were kicked out of the Premier League. Moreover, it’s also unclear how Man City would be included in such a scenario without a change in rules since the EFL can only have 72 clubs.
Could Man City play football in the lower leagues?
There is no provision in the rules for the independent disciplinary commission of the Premier League to relegate a team, even if they have the authority to expel one. Therefore, it’s possible that Man City might end up playing outside of the top four English football divisions, in non-league football.
If this happens, City would undoubtedly lose all of their key players in such a situation, along with their top-tier manager, Pep Guardiola. The defending Premier League winners, though, seem to think they can clear their name.
