The former UFC fan favorite, Anthony Johnson made his much-awaited return from a four-year-lay-off into the octagon and made his Bellator 258 debut wherein he defeated Jose Augusto Azavedo via second round TKO in Connecticut.

But his trip to Connecticut proved to a heft one as Anthony John already had an outstanding warrant against his name. The former 2-time UFC lightweight Title Challenger was taken into custody over an incident which happened in 2019.

Anthony Johnson Arrested for Identity Theft

He was booked for allegedly using someone else’s credit card to purchase a flight from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to Newark, New Jersey. Hence, Anthony Johnson was charged for identity theft and cited for spending $355 on a revoked payment card, yet was released on bail.

According to the Daily Voice report, Anthony Johnson was involved in the following crime, “Police said that the illegal use of the credit card was used to purchase a round-trip ticket for Newark to Fort Lauderdale, with Anthony Johnson as the passenger.”

However even after his bail, neither Anthony Johnson nor his teams has stated any official word regarding the same.

Anthony Johnson Bellator 258 Debut

Significant to note that the arrest came just couple of hours after Anthony Johnson’s debut Bellator performance. He was initially scheduled to compete against former UFC Fighter, Yoel Romero in the quarter-final round of the Bellator’s lightweight tournament.

Roel Romero was pulled out of the fight as he failed to pass a medical test. This led open the chance for Jose Augusto Azavedo to barge into Romero’s place, possessing a record of 7-2.

Even though Azavadeo took the fight on such a small notice, he was able to trouble Anthony Johnson in the first round. But given the latter’s power, he truly lived upto his nickname ‘Rumble’ to call the match off with a devastating TKO victory over the Brazilian.

Having spoken about Anthony Johnson’s Arrest and his Bellator debut, he would face the Vadim Nemkov in the semi-finals, who is Bellator’s current lightweight Champion.
