Why Is Spitfire Dog Called The Michael Jordan of Dogs, His Age, Breed, Jump, Sports, Records List 2022
Who’s that dog and why is it named The Michael Jordan of Dogs?
Spitfire is the name of the dog, which is a Whippet. Due to his success in events all around the world, Spitfire has established a name for himself along with his handler Sydney.
A time back, ESPN published a video of Spitfire smashing record after record while competing in dock diving, a sport where dogs jump as far as they can into swimming pools. He claimed ownership of 21 world records a few years back. At this point, Spitfire earned the moniker “The Michael Jordan of dogs.”
Smitty’s owner is a 13-year-old with a brush of freckles across her nose named Sydney Mackey, who lives in Olympia, Washington and the dog is 10 years old.
It is rather obvious why the whippet was given its name. As everyone is aware, Jordan is also referred to as “His Airness” and for good reason. At times, Jordan’s leaps were so high that he gave the impression of hovering. Having said that, what other name would be more appropriate for Spitfire if he were to be given the GOAT designation in his sport than the legendary Michael Jordan?
How high can Spitfire jump?
As was previously indicated, Spitfire competed in several events and obtained the honorific moniker. He was inducted into the 2022 DockDogs Hall of Fame after having such a significant impact on the sport. This merely demonstrates how accurate his moniker actually is.

Spitfire is often referred to as “The Flying Dog”. He can jump up to 31 feet and reach speeds of close to 30 mph before diving into a pool. It held the record at the time (in 2018). In 2019, a different whippet by the name of Sounders broke his previous record by leaping 36 feet 3 inches. By rising to a height of 36 feet 6 inches this year, Sounders improved it even further.
Even though Spitfire no longer holds the world record, he was once a powerful force all by himself. This also makes him comparable to Michael Jordan, who, although not have the most records in the sport, has had the most influence on it.
