On Monday, Cristiano Ronaldo shared the awful news of one of his twins having died, know why is he not playing today vs Liverpool
Cristiano Ronaldo will not go to Anfield to face Liverpool in the Premier League on Tuesday, according to Manchester United. On Monday, Ronaldo shared the heartbreaking news that his newborn son, Georgina Rodriguez, had died.
Last October, Ronaldo and Rodriguez said they were expecting twins before revealing they were expecting a boy and a girl two months later. The United star, on the other hand, announced on social media at the start of the week that he and his wife had sadly lost their infant son.
Know Why Is Cristiano Ronaldo Not Playing Today In Manchester United vs Liverpool After The Death Of His Baby Son
“It is with great grief that we must inform you that our newborn son has died away, he said in a statement. It is the most excruciating anguish that any parent can experience. Only our baby girl’s arrival has given us the strength to survive this time with some optimism and happiness.
We want to express our gratitude to the physicians and nurses for their outstanding care and assistance. We are absolutely crushed by this loss, and we respectfully want privacy at this terrible time. You are our angel, our sweet son. You will always be loved by us,” Ronaldo said.
Ronaldo To Miss Against Liverpool
And now, expectedly, United has announced he will not play against arch rivals Liverpool 24 hours later. A statement released just hours before Ralf Rangnick’s team’s trip to Merseyside emphasised the importance of the game.
It said: “Family comes first, and Ronaldo is supporting his loved ones during this extremely difficult moment. As a result, we can announce that he will not play in Tuesday’s encounter at Anfield against Liverpool, and we reiterate the family’s appeal for privacy.”
In football terms, as insignificant as they are in such heartbreaking situations, the news is a major setback for United. Jurgen Klopp’s title-chasing side were already heavy favourites to win. The visitors’ must push harder as they play with absence of their most significant player.
Man Utd Blown By Absense Of Major Players
Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw, Fred, Scott McTominay, and Edinson Cavani are all injured for the Red Devils. And three points are critical if they are to keep the pressure on fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League qualifying campaign.
With a win at Anfield, United would draw level with Tottenham Hotspur, who have played one game more, and move three points clear of Arsenal in fifth place. On Wednesday night, the Gunners take on Chelsea in a tight London derby.
