Why did MS Dhoni argue with the umpires during GT vs CSK and slow over rate penalty explained

Here is why MS Dhoni got engaged in a fight with the umpire during GT vs CSK Qualifier 1 before the game was halted for five minutes and will he be fined for the slow over rate

In the first qualifier of the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by a margin of 15 runs, breaking their previous record of nine.

The CSK captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, once again shown why he is among the best captains who have ever played the game, and the match was yet another IPL classic.

The crowd, however, was baffled by a bizarre incidence that took place during the fifteenth over. Dhoni and his co. surrounded the umpires and argued with them for five minutes before the game abruptly began for what appeared like no apparent reason.

Dhoni and his teammates’ actions had good reason to be what they were. To give bowler Matheesha Pathirana more time to deliver the inning’s 15th over, the CSK captain tried to buy time.

Pathirana couldn’t bowl again until he had spent as much time on the pitch as he had spent off it because he had sat down for some of the second inning. Pathirana helped bowl out GT and keep them from pursuing the Super Kings’ score, thus Dhoni took a risk by risking his over-rate to give the young Sri Lankan that time.

There was a nine-minute delay in proceedings during IPL 2023 Qualifier 1 between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans and incident took place when Dhoni started arguing with the umpires as Matheesha Pathirana was not allowed to bowl his second over. Dhoni argued with the umpires and that could now backfire for the CSK captain as he could be penalised and he has already been fined earlier in the tournament for maintaining a slow over rate. It will now be interesting to see if Dhoni is fined or banned but in all probability, the former would happen.

Meanwhile, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated the Gujarat Titans (GT) by a slim margin of 15 runs in Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) being played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

With this triumph, CSK has qualified for the IPL championship game a record-breaking ten times. However, on May 26, 2023, the Gujarat Titans will now have another chance in Qualifier 2.

To shut down the opposition, the CSK bowlers coordinated their efforts brilliantly. However, Ruturaj Gaikwad played an incredible innings of 60 runs on a very challenging Chennai surface that got slower as the game progressed. Gaikwad was recognised as the winner of the Man of the Match award for his outstanding performance.
