Jonathan Lewis beaten to death

A teenage student at Ranch High School was recently beaten to death, by a violent mob of students in Las Vegas. The incident took place earlier this month, on November 1, 2023. Lewis reportedly confronted a mob of about 15 attackers after they robbed his friend.

Following the incident, a 17-year-old was transported to a hospital while in critical condition. Jonathan remained under life support in the hospital before passing away on Tuesday, November 7, just one week following the attack. The whole incident was caught on video and circulated across social media sites. The videos show a group of students pushing Lewis against a fence before they violently beat him up and pummel him to the ground.

Police conduct investigations

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police have launched a full-on murder investigation in response to the tragic and shocking incident. The police have also urged the public to call law enforcement if they have any information regarding the group of attackers involved in the beating. Despite their best efforts, authorities have yet to make any arrests in the case so far.

Jonathan Lewis bio

Jonathan Lewis was a 17-year-old student at Rancho High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to reports, he lived with his mother in Las Vegas and had plans to move in with his father, Jonathan Lewis Sr. His father lived in Austin, Texas. Moreover, Lewis was reportedly making plans to join the military and follow in his grandfather’s footsteps, who was a U.S. Navy veteran.

The teen’s father, Jonathan Lewis Sr., confirmed his son’s death on a memorial website he created more than a week after the incident and said his son was attacked after he jumped in to help his friend – a smaller boy who had something stolen from him by the group and was thrown into a trash can.

Jonathan Lewis’ father sets up a GoFundMe campaign

Following the tragic incident, Jonathan Lewis’ father has set up a GoFundMe campaign to cover medical costs. The campaign has reportedly raised over $37,500. On the popular fundraising page, Lewis’ father went on to describe the deceased teen. He described Jonathan as:

an aspiring artist, devoted big brother, and a fierce protector of loved ones.”

He further added that his son died as a result of the prevalent issues related to youth violence.  Jonathan Lewis Sr. further added that his son lost his life while defending a friend from a group of 15 attackers who stole an item from him. The group of boys allegedly threw Lewis’ friend in a trash can. Meanwhile, Jonathan Lewis also clarified against online reports suggesting that his son was a victim of a racist attack. He stated:

The human RACE is screaming for us to see our unity calling us to break the cycle of the imprisonment of violence and apathy. Showing us how it comes through in the youth. This is a humanity thing beloved by the people of the United States. Not a race thing!”
