The 2022 NBA MVP award was presented as the Conference semi-finals of the NBA Playoffs approached their midway point. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid, and Nikola Jokic were among the contenders.
Jokic of the Denver Nuggets has won the award for the second year in a row, following Giannis’ back-to-back wins in 2018-19 and 2019-20 while Embiid has come in second place.

Who Votes For NBA MVP?:
A panel of 100 sportswriters, journalists, and broadcasters from the United States and Canada voted for the NBA MVP award.
In essence, they rate the nominees in order of who they believe ought to receive the prize. On a sliding scale, the top receives ten points, the second gets seven, and so on.

After all of the ballots have been counted, the NBA MVP for that year is awarded to the person who received the most votes. Since the 1980-81 season, the voting procedure has been delegated to writers and journalists, with fans voting beginning in 2010.

After the votes were cast, Jokic joined the ranks of Karl Malone, Tim Duncan, Steph Curry, and Giannis as a two-time NBA MVP. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who won six NBA MVP titles between 1971 and 1980, is at the top of the list. Bill Russell and Michael Jordan all have five titles, while Wilt Chamberlain and LeBron James each have four.
From 1982 to 1990, Moses Malone, Larry Bird, and Magic Johnson each won three times, with the exception of 1988, when MJ won his first.

According to ESPN, Nikola Jokic has earned the NBA MVP award for the 2021-22 season for the second consecutive year. Back-to-back MVP titles for Jokic mirror what fellow candidate Giannis Antetokounmpo achieved in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers, the third finalist, has never won the award.
Apart from assists, Jokic’s per-game averages in every major statistical category improved throughout the regular season. He averaged 27.1 points, 13.8 rebounds, 0.9 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game, all career highs. He also shot 58.3 percent from the field, and while he didn’t match his career-high in free throw percentage or 3-point percentage, he did establish career highs in total free throws.
