MI Cape Town started off their opening night of the SA20 2025 with a stunning performance against the two-time and defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape.
The team secured a bonus-point win by 97 runs at Gqeberha, with Delano making a standout performance.

Delano Potgieter is a South African first-class cricketer who was born on August 5, 1996, in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, South Africa with his height at 6 feet. He is currently 28 years old and mainly plays as an all-rounder, playing as a left-handed batter and a right-arm medium bowler. Despite having played professionally for over a decade, he still remains uncapped and is yet to play in the IPL.
Delano went to the Hoerskool Marais Viljoen, a public school in Alberton, Gauteng and also made it to Gauteng U17’s cricket team.

Career and stats
Delano started out his professional career with Gauteng, playing his debut against the Northerners in their 2018 Africa T20 Cup. He scored the highest number of runs in the tournament with 217 runs from six matches. Delano Potgieter then played in the 2018-19 CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge, topping Gauteng’s wicket tally with 17 wickets.
The following year, in September 2019, he played for the Jozi Stars in the 2019 Mzansi Super League. That same month, he also played for Gauteng in the 2019/20 CSA Provincial T20 Cup. Then, in April 2021, Delano featured for the South Africa Emerging Men’s squad in their six-match tour of Namibia. Later that year, he featured in the North West squad ahead of the 2021-22 season in South Africa. He has gained notoriety following his recent performances for MI Cape Town against the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in SA20 2025.
The 28-year-old made his debut bowling in the competition and played beyond expectations after taking five wickets and giving away just 10 runs.
