According to news sources, Zhanna Samsonova’s early demise was caused by a protracted battle with famine and weariness that was brought on by her strict exotic fruit diet.

Russian-born Zhanna Samsonova, a 39-year-old vegan influencer, spent years subsisting solely on raw vegan food. She killed herself by starvation. She routinely promoted raw foods on her social media platforms.

According to reports, the woman, who went by the online identity Zhanna D’Art, died on July 21 after finally seeking medical help while on tour in Southeast Asia.

Who Is Zhanna Samsonova?

Samsonova claimed in an Instagram post that she had been vegan for at least ten years and had only eaten raw vegetables.

One of her friends spoke with a news channel and said, “A few months ago, in Sri Lanka, she already looked exhausted, with swollen legs oozing lymph. She was brought back home to get care. But she departed once more. When I first encountered her in Phuket, I was terrified.”

Her friend said that she lived one apartment above her, and every day she feared finding her dead body in the morning. She convinced her to call for assistance, but she did not make it.

According to Samsonova’s mother, her daughter died of a “cholera-like infection.” 

Zhanna Samsonova Was On A Strict Raw Diet

However, the official reason for her death was kept a secret. Vechernyaya Kazan was informed by Samsonova’s mother that she believed Samsonova had died as a result of exhaustion and the toll a vegan diet had taken on her body.

For the preceding seven years, the influencer had only eaten the big, sweet jackfruit and the durian, a spiky, mace-like fruit renowned for its custardy meat and unpleasant odour.

Samsonova had written in one of her articles about her strict food regimen. She wrote, “I feel my body and mind transform every day,” with satisfaction. Since I enjoy the new version of myself, I never relapse to my old habits.”

On social media, she pushed the raw diet. She used to claim that she consumes simple food despite having extensive expertise as a raw food chef. She liked creating her own recipes and inspiring others to eat healthily.

Pros And Cons Of A Strict Raw Diet

A raw food diet has disadvantages, especially when it is poorly planned out, according to the medical website Healthline. Although this diet can help with weight loss, heart health, and diabetes risk reduction, it also has certain disadvantages.

These include calcium inadequacy and vitamin D deficiency, both of which are essential for strong bones. Furthermore, this could lead to low B12 levels, ironically leading to heart disease, anaemia, damage to the nervous system, and infertility.
