During his first tenure, the then President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari, appointed Zaka as the chairman of PCB. However, on 10th February 2014, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif dissolved the PCB and removed Ashraf from his role as chairman. Back in 2012, Zaka was also elected as the chairman of the Development Committee of the Asian Cricket Council.

Feud with Najam Sethi

Ashraf Zaka has a longstanding feud with Najam Sethi due to their power struggle over the PCB chairmanship. The power struggle peaked around 2013 to 2014 when the chairman role switched hands several times. The issue between the two presumably came to an end when former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif removed Ashraf from the chairmanship role and appointed Sethi. However, the issue has hardly ended with extensive negotiations taking place between the involved parties. The negotiations have resulted in Sethi stepping aside while Ashraf will take his place as the incoming Chairman.
