The acclaimed Pakistani sports presenter, Zainab Abbas, was recently in India to cover the ICC World Cup. She reportedly left the nation, citing safety concerns, after making anti-Hindu statements on her social media platform.

On Thursday, Indian lawyer Vineet Jindal filed a cyber complaint against the reporter’s post, and legal action was taken for her “Anti-Hindu” and “Anti-India” comments. 

Who is Zainab Abbas?

Zainab Abbas was born on February 14, 1998, in Lahore, Pakistan and has a height of 5 feet 7 inches. She was born to Nasir Abbas and Andaleeb Abbas and has one brother, Hussain Abbas Mirza. Her father was a cricketer, and her mother was a PTI politician.

Abbas earned her marketing and strategy MBA from the University of Warwick (England).

Zainab Abbas’ Marriage

She is married to Hamza Kardar on November 24, 2019. The couple together has one son, Taimoor Kardar.

Zainab hails from a family deeply connected to both cricket and politics and her father, Nasir Abbas, was a domestic cricketer, while her mother, Andleeb Abbas, is a senior member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf party.

Her spouse, Hamza, is the grandson of Abdul Hafeez Kardar, Pakistan’s first Test captain, who later held the position of head of the Pakistan Cricket Board and served as Punjab’s food minister under the PPP government in the early 1970s. Former State Bank of Pakistan governor and former Finance Minister, Shahid Hafeez is  the father of Hamza.

Zainab Abbas’ Career

In her old interview, Zainab confessed that she had gone for an audition for a World Cup panel without any experience in broadcasting. She got the job because she had some knowledge about cricket. She gained fame after hosting the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Zainab is currently the anchor of ‘Dunya’, which is a Pakistani Urdu news and current affairs TV channel. Previously, she has also worked for ‘TenSports’.

Throughout her career, she had a chance to interview Imran Khan, Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Amir, and Rameer Raja.

In 2017, she served as a host for events for the T10 League, the Shahid Afridi Foundation, and the celebrity Younis Khan Farewell. She writes articles and her opinions on websites dedicated to cricket, such as ESPNCricinfo. 

She is regarded as the first Pakistani female sports presenter on a global scale. Another big event that she hosted was ‘Sawal Cricket Ka!’ which was a web series on the Pakistan National Cricket Team.

When Zainab took a selfie with AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli during the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, she received trolling on Twitter. 

She praised Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Twitter on April 25, 2018, when he helped his team, the “Chennai Super Kings,” defeat the “Royal Challengers Banglore.” However, she faced criticism from Pakistani cricket fans for praising an Indian cricketer, and she posted very critical comments about her on Twitter.
