The video of Instagram influencer Akash Sagar shouting Jai Shree Ram in a Meghalaya church has gone viral
According to an officer on Friday, police have filed a case against Akash Sagar for allegedly offending people’s religious feelings by entering a church in the East Khasi Hills district and yelling “Jai Shri Ram” at the altar.
‘Jai Shri Ram’ was chanted by Akash Sagar who entered the Mawlynnong village church on Thursday and he shared the video on social media, the police added.
Conrad K. Sangma, the chief minister of Meghalaya, has denounced the act and stated that administrative legal proceedings are underway in the case of the person who was intended to undermine peaceful coexistence between the people.

“The action seems deliberate. We as a state government will leave no stone unturned to prevent anyone from creating social, religious, and communal disharmony. Legal action is on,” the CM told.
Rangad, on December 26, filed a complaint pointing to videos circulating on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, showing Sagar entering the church and allegedly performing acts that insult the religious sanctity of the place.
According to the FIR, Akash Sagar entered the altar area and engaged in disruptive behaviour, including shouting non-Christian slogans and mockingly singing religious songs.

Following the filing of a formal complaint against Akash Sagar for trespassing and desecrating the Church of Epiphany in Mawlynnong, East Khasi Hills, at the Laitumkhrah police station in Meghalaya, the accused resorted to social media to refute the accusations.
“For saying Jai Shree Ram?” he asked, displaying a screen grab of several news articles detailing the FIR that had been brought against him. In a social media post, Sagar dismissed the “so-called” FIR that was made by well-known social activist Angela Rangad and accused his detractors of being “traitors.”
In an attempt to further criticize the evolution of his act, Akash Sagar provided details of a Karnataka High Court decision that declared that “shouting “Jai Shri Ram” inside a mosque did not “outrage the religious feelings of any class” and that the criminal proceedings against two men who had been charged with insulting religious beliefs were quashed.
