This historic development was announced by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), emphasising, “For the first time ever, women match officials are poised to make their debut at Asia’s most prestigious men’s national team competition.”
For the first time ever, there will be 24 teams competing in the 2017 Asian Cup, with Qatar serving as both the host country and the defending champions. The competition is expected to be fierce, with top contenders Japan and South Korea, who both advanced to the round of 16 at the most recent World Cup held in Qatar.
