Yahya Sinwar bio and age

Yahya Sinwar, full name Yahya Ibrahim Hassan Sinwar is the current Palestinian political head of Hamas in the Gaza Strip. He was born on 29 October 1962, in Khan Yunis, and currently aged about 60 years. Yahya Sinwar is reportedly the political head of Hamas and the second most powerful figure within Hamas. He has a net worth of $1-5 million and is a Muslim by religion.

Sinwar previously served as the head of the Izzedine al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas. In fact, he was one of the co-founders of its security wing. Back in the Palestinian enclave 2017, he got elected as the new head for Hamas around the Gaza Strip. According to State Department records, Israel imprisoned him for the kidnapping and murder of two Israeli soldiers back in the late 1980s. However, they eventually freed him in 2011 during a prisoner swap in exchange of kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

In his current role, Sinwar serves as an important decision-maker for Hamas. He also serves as a member of the executive leadership that is dedicated towards developing policies, particularly concerning Israel. The Israeli State Department identified Sinwar and Deif as terrorists ever since 2015.

A ‘hardline’ leader

Kobi Michael, who is an analyst and former head of Israel’s Ministry of Strategic Affairs’ Palestinian Desk, revealed in 2017 that Sinwar is “one of the most radical and extreme lines of Hamas”. He further revealed that Sinwar is focused on increasing the group’s military capabilities.

After an increased hostility around 2021, Israeli officials attacked Sinwar’s house and office located in the Gaza Strip’s south. According to Kobi Michael, Sinwar is a “hardline leader,” and had previously encouraged Egyptian mediation during the border clashes back in 2018 and 2019. The Hamas leader even made attempts to improve the humanitarian and economic circumstances of people in Gaza.
