Who is Kiran Bishnoi?

Kiran Godara, also known as Kiran Bishnoi, is an Indian freestyle wrestler. She took home a bronze at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2023 Asian Games. She hails from Khera village, Hisar district, Haryana, India

At the 2017 Commonwealth Wrestling Championships in Johannesburg, Bishnoi won the gold medal. She lost her women’s 76 kg bronze medal match in 2021 in Oslo, Norway, at the World Wrestling Championships.

In her early years, Kiran Bishnoi used to watch Sushil Kumar’s matches on television and was the first Indian woman wrestler to win a medal in the freestyle 76 Kg division at the Commonwealth Games.

In 2009, Kiran started wrestling in Kali Rawan, the hometown of her mother. She won a bronze medal at the Jammu junior nationals in 2011 and was crowned junior champion in the 67-kilogram weight division in 2012. She also brought home a bronze medal from Kazakhstan’s Junior Asian Championships in 2013.

Who are Kiran Bishnoi’s parents and family?

In the Haryanan village of Rawat Khera’s Hisar district, Bishnoi was born to Kuldeep and Sunita Godara. Her maternal grandparents raised her in the Kalirawan village of the Hisar area. She used to accompany her maternal grandfather, wrestler Ramswaroop Khichad Kalirawna, to practises.
