The gold medal game was won by Punia with a score of 3-0. At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Punia won India’s third wrestling gold medal. All emphasis was on the opponent of Punia going into the last three minutes after the Indian grappler gained a 2-0 lead in the opening stanza.
In this game, Punia played well. He was able to hold his own and contain his rival for the last three minutes, winning the gold. The Pakistani wrestler failed to score because he had trouble breaking through Punia’s formidable defence.

Who Is Deepak Punia?
Deepak Punia is a well-known Indian freestyle wrestler who has recently been in news for winning the gold medal at Commonwealth Games 2022 in the Men’s Freestyle 86kg division.
He was born on May 19, 1999, in Chhara, Jhajjar district, Haryana, India. He comes from a family of wrestlers. His father’s name is Subhash Punia, who is working as a milkman and his mother’s name is Krishna Punia who is a homemaker. He also has one sister whose name is Neeru Dhanda. She is a part of the Indian shooting team.
He is currently employed in the Indian Army as a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO).
His height is 177 cm or 5 feet 8 inches and his weight is 86 kg or 190 lbs. He is presently 22 years old. Bajrang and Deepak both belong to Jhajjar and both athletes mastered their art at the Chhatrasal Stadium in New Delhi.
His Career
In his international debut, Deepak Punia won a gold medal at Cadet World Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia in 2016.
Later on, in 2018, he won the gold medal at Asian Junior Athletics Championships in New Delhi. Later on, the same year, he won the silver medal at Junior World Wrestling Championship in Trnava.
In 2019, he won the gold medal at Junior World Wrestling Championships in Tallinn. Later on, he won the silver medal in World Wrestling Championships in Nur-Sultan. In the same year, he also won the bronze medal at Asian Wrestling Championships in Xi’an.
In 2020, he won the bronze medal at Asian Wrestling Championships in New Delhi. Later on, in 2012, he won the silver medal at Asian Wrestling Championships in Almaty. He now won the gold medal at CWG 2022.
