James Lee Carragher is an English professional footballer who was born on November 11, 2002, in Liverpool, United Kingdom. He currently plays as a centre-back for Wigan Athletic in the EFL League One. James is the song of Liverpool and England legend Jamie Carragher.

Jamie Carragher married his childhood sweetheart, Nicola Hart, in 2005 and they have a daughter, Mia, and a son, James.

Contract

James Carragher signed a three-year contract extension with League One club Wigan Athletic just last year. Following the new contract, he will remain with the club until the end of the 2026–27 season. The 21-year-old signed his first professional deal with the club back in 2021.

Career

James Carragher started out playing football with Liverpool as an under-8 player back in 2011. After playing there for several years, he finally joined the Wigan Athletic youth academy in 2017. While playing there, Carragher captained the under-18 side that won the U18 Professional Development League during the 2020/21 season. James then signed his first professional contract with Wigan bac on August 4, 2021.

He made his debut for the club during a penalty shootout win over Hull City in the EFL Cup, following which he signed a new two-year contract running till April 27, 2023. The following season, Carragher joined National League club Oldham Athletic on loan, where he made 6 appearances across competitions. After returning to the club, he went out on another loan in January 2024, joining Scottish Championship side Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

During his time there, he made his debut during a 1-0 loss at home to Dundee United. He made a total of 20 appearances across all competitions for the club. Carragher eventually returned to his parent club and made his league debut against Crawley Town on August 24, 2024. He has now gone on to score his first professional career goal with the club on January 25, 2025. The youngster scored a header during their 2-0 win against Bristol Rovers.
