Who is Shamar Joseph?
Guyanese cricketer Shamar Joseph was born on August 31, 1999, and now represents Guyana in first-class cricket. The 24-year-old is a medium-speed, right-arm bowler. He hails from the little Guyanaian town of Baracara in East Berbice-Corentyne.

He impressed the viewers during his maiden CPL stint in 2023 with the Guyana Amazon Warriors for his ability to deliver short-pitched deliveries at speeds exceeding 140 kph consistently, although he only featured in 2 matches.
Born in the small village of Baracara, Guyana, Shamar Joseph grew up in a large family with five brothers and three sisters. Contrary to rumors, he is not the brother of cricketer Alzarri Joseph. The names of his parents aren’t known.
His early life in Baracara, a remote area accessible only by a two-day boat trip up the Canje River, was humble and devoid of modern conveniences like proper telephone or internet service until 2018 and despite the challenges, Joseph found solace and excitement in cricket. He would often play tape-ball cricket in his village. In his village, TV sets are a rarity, but Shamar did not let his love for cricket go astray as he kept watching reels of legendary West Indies fast bowlers, including Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh.
Shamar Joseph’s career
When he played Australia in January 2024 at Adelaide Oval for his debut for the West Indies cricket team, he memorably removed Steve Smith with the first delivery of the match.
He had a job at a security company. His dream passion was cricket, thus he eventually left the security company to pursue job opportunities in that sport.
Prior to being called up for the first-class cricket tournament, he had never played or represented Guyana at any level. The Guyana Harpy Eagles picked him as one of their four uncapped players for the 55th edition of the Regional Four Day Competition.
During the 2022–23 West Indies Championship, on February 1, 2023, he made his debut for Guyana in a first-class match against Barbados. Against Windward Islands in the 2022–23 West Indies Championship, he claimed his first-ever five-wicket haul in first-class cricket history. He finished with stats of 5/41 in a session of twelve overs.
Finally, on September 17, 2023, he played in a league stage encounter against the Barbados Royals to make his T20 debut during the 2023 season. Additionally, he played a significant role in the Guyana Amazon Warriors team, which won the 2023 CPL season championship.
