Weightlifter Preetismita Bhoi beat the old youth world record on Wednesday in the 40 kg weight class at the 2024 IWF Youth World Weightlifting Championships in Lima, Peru. This is the first time a young world record has been beaten by an Indian lifter.

She represents the country in international contests, where she competes in the 40 kg class. Bhoi set a new young world record of 76 kg in the Clean & Jerk category after winning a gold medal for India in the 40 kg event at the 2024 Young World Weightlifting Championships.

Bhoi was one of the weightlifters selected in August 2023 by the Talent Identification and Development Committee of the Khelo India project to be designated as a Khelo India Athlete, which entitles her to support training and competitions.
The 40 kg division at the 2024 Youth World Weightlifting Championships was Bhoi’s most recent competition. On her way to winning the gold in the Clean & Jerk event, she crushed the previous juvenile world record with 76 kg.
