It has been reported that Sheuli was apprehended by security guards on Thursday night at approximately ten o’clock at night. They also recorded the incident on video.
After the event, the 22-year-old, who took home the gold in the men’s 73 kg weightlifting competition at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, had to face harsh consequences from the Sports Authority of India (SAI), which oversees the NIS Patiala campus.
The Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWLF) president, Sahadev Yadav, spoke with IANS over the phone and told:
Yes, he has been sent back from the national camp. He has been sent back to his parent body and is currently at the Army Institute of Sports (AIS).”
Who is Achinta Sheuli?
Achinta Sheuli is an Indian weightlifter who competes in the 73 kg weight class with his height at 5 feet 6 inches. The 22-year-old was born on November 24, 2001 in Deulpur, Howrah district, West Bengal, India.
In the Howrah district’s Deulpur, Panchla, Sheuli was born into a lower middle class Bengali family. He completed his schooling in Deulpur High School.
A look at Achinta Sheuli’s career
Achinta starred weightlifting in 2011. Sheuli competed in the Youth National Games in Haryana, finishing third. He gained entry into the Army Sports Institute, Pune, in 2014 after winning the 50 kg weight class in the Junior National level weightlifting competition in 2013.
Achinta won gold and set a record for the most weight in the 2022 Commonwealth Games (313 kg). He performed a Games Record-breaking 143 kg snatch, matching his previous personal best, and a 170 kg clean and jerk.
He has two gold medals from the Commonwealth Championships and a silver medal from the Junior World Weightlifting Championships in 2021.

Achinta Sheuli’s family
Unfortunately in April 2013, Achinta’s father Pratik Sheuli, who was a manual labourer passed away. He also has an elder brother, Alok, who gave up weightlifting to focus on his work and the family.
Achinta was preparing for weightlifting, which required strength, while also helping his mother and brother with their precise embroidery work.
