32-year-old Kim van de Velde was born on September 22, 1992. She is 1.79m tall. Following her high school graduation in 2012, Kim van de Velde underwent police training in Munster. After that, she finished a correspondence course in psychology.
In January 2022, volleyball player Kim van de Velde married Dutch beach volleyball player Steven van de Velde. It was in the spring of 2022 when she gave birth to her first child, a son who is now aged 2.
Her older brother is professional football player Kevin Behrens, who was born in 1991. He recently made a public apology after refusing to sign a rainbow jersey and his homophobic comments and said, “My spontaneous comments were absolutely not OK. I would like to apologise for that. The topic was clearly discussed internally and I ask for your understanding that I do not wish to comment further.”
Kevin Behrens is a plays as a forward for Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg and the Germany national team.
Kim van de Velde career
At Bremen’s TS Neustadt, Kim van de Velde started playing indoor volleyball at the age of nine. Later on, she participated in this league as a player for the Bremen state team, the regional league team, and the youth national team.
The outside attacker transferred to USC Munster’s volleyball boarding school in 2007 and continued to play for the second division squad there until 2016. She also made multiple appearances for the USC first division squad in the 2009–10 year. Van de Velde and USC Münster finished second in the 2011 German U20 Championship.
Together with Anni Schumacher, van de Velde placed first on the FIVB World Tour podium in Shepparton, Australia during a one-star competition in 2017. Throughout the 2017–18 FIVB World Tour, both athletes achieved multiple top 10 results.
Van de Velde finished seventh in the Netherlands at the European Championships. After losing to Bieneck/Schneider in the final, they finished as the runners-up in Germany in Timmendorfer Strand. Van de Velde has performed alongside Cinja Tillmann since the spring of 2019. They took home two titles from the national Techniker Beach Tour during their inaugural season together.
She performed alongside Sandra Ittlinger once more in 2021. Results for the two were inconsistent on the FIVB World Tour.
Bremen was the first tour stop for Christ/van de Velde, who won the German Beach Tour 2023. In addition, van de Velde and her temporary partner Paula Schurholz triumphed in the Bremen competition on the German Beach Tour 2024.
Sandra Ittlinger has been van de Velde’s partner since the summer of 2024. Heidelberg, Munich, and Kuhlungsborn were the three tournaments that the two won on the German Beach Tour. Ittlinger/van de Velde came in third at the German Championships in 2024.
