Naman Ojha, a veteran of India’s local cricket scene, had his father jailed in connection with an eight-year investigation. VK Ojha, a resident of Betul, has been detained and will be taken before the court.
According to reports, Ojha has been on the run since the FIR was first filed in 2014.
Ojha was a branch manager at the Bank of Maharashtra when the misappropriation of Rs 1.25 crore was discovered in 2013. The entire scheme was carried out by using Kishan Credit cards to open several accounts and obtain loans.
“The case was registered under the following sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC): 409 (criminal violation of trust by public servant), 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (forged documentation), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy),” a police official told PTI.
Meanwhile, after a storied career, Naman Ojha resigned from all forms of the game last year. The Madhya Pradesh legend represented India in one Test, one ODI, and two T20Is, as well as amassing a tonne of runs at home.
In 2016, Naman Ojha was selected captain of India A, which competed in two unofficial ‘Tests’ and a four-nation One-day event in Australia. In 2014, Ojha had a memorable visit to Australia with the India A squad, when he scored a double century and a century in a four-day encounter.
Ojha made his first-class debut for Madhya Pradesh in 2000–01. He was a good top-order batsman and wicketkeeper.
Ojha also played in the Indian Premier League for the Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Delhi Daredevils. He was last seen as part of the Indian team in the Legends T20 League. His net worth stands at Rs.11 crore.
