Who is Vishnu Prasanna V?
Born on August 12, 1989, Vishnu Prasanna V., whose full name is Vishnu Prasanna Vasanthan Perumal, is an Indian chess grandmaster and coach.
Born and raised in Chennai, India, Vishnu Prasanna V began playing chess at the tender age of 12 after his mother introduced the game to him.
Born as the youngest of three siblings, in Chennai to Mr. Vasanthan Perumal and Mrs. Banumathi, he completed his early schooling in Asan Memorial Senior Secondary School and started playing competitive chess much later in 2002, around 12 years of age.
He went on to complete his Bachelors in Commerce from Loyola College, Chennai and his Masters in Business Administration (Marketting and Operations) from SRM University, Chennai. He went on to become India’s 33rd Grandmaster in 2013.

Career
As aforesaid, Vishnu began playing chess at the age of 12. Later, in 2006, he participated in the Cusat Fide Rating Open and emerged victorious. During the National Juniors Chess Championship, 2007, he emerged as the runner-up of the tournament.
Vishnu won the International Master title in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, in 2010. Later, three years after, Vishnu emerged victorious in Chennai Blitz Championship 2013 and gained the title of Grandmaster.
During the tournament, Vishnu remained undefeated throughout the tournament while defeating various grandmasters such as Shyam Sundar M., Adhiban Baskaran, and J. Deepan Chakkravarthy.
Vishnu transition into coaching career in 2013 shortly after he earned the title of Grandmaster. The former chess player is widely known for having coached super-grandmaster Gukesh D, whom he first met in July 2017.
He has been coaching professional chess players since 2016 and has beaten several prominent chess players including GM Parimarjan Negi, GM Nigel Short, GM Emil Sutovsky, GM Ivan Popov, GM Evgeny Tomashevsky(blitz) and GM Nihal Sarin(blitz).

Wife
In November 2022, Vishnu Prasanna launched his own chess club in the Anna Nagar neighborhood of Chennai alongside his wife, Dr. Raghavi, who’s also a chess player and Woman International Master.
