59-year-old Vikram Misri was born into a Kashmiri Hindu family in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India, on November 7, 1964 but the names of his parents aren’t known.
Misri went to Carmel Convent School in Udhampur, Jammu division, then Burn Hall School and DAV School in Srinagar. After that, he attended Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh’s Scindia School. He later graduated from the University of Delhi’s Hindu College with a bachelor’s degree in history. In Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, he also earned an MBA at the Xavier Labour Relations Institute, or XLRI. Vikram is a 1989 batch diplomat of the Indian Foreign Service.
He has two kids and is married to Dolly Misri. He speaks Kashmiri, Hindi, and English with ease. He also knows a little bit of French. His daughter Didon Misri was a law student at the Jindal Global Law School from where she did her BA LLB Hons from 2014-2019 and then did her Bachelor of Civil Law from the University of Oxford from 2019-2020. She is currently an Associate (International Arbitration) at Herbert Smith Freehills.
Dolly Misri, wife of Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, is currently the President of an organization called External Affairs Spouses Association (EASA) and this organization was established in the year 1971 to represent and support the spouses of Indian Foreign Service officers.
EASA has been actively involved in promoting a sense of community among its members and their families and it also has an EASA Charitable Trust (EASACT).
Vikram is a fellow of the Kamalnayan Bajaj Fellowship, which is currently the India leadership project of ASPEN Institute USA.
At present, the post of Foreign Secretary comes under the 7th Pay Commission and according to this commission, the Foreign Secretary gets a fixed basic salary of Rs 2,25,000 every month. Vikram Misri career
Vikram Misri spent three years working in advertising after finishing his studies. He worked in Delhi for contact advertising and in Mumbai for Lintas India. In 1989, he enlisted in the Indian Foreign Service. He held a number of positions at the Indian missions in Tunis and Brussels from 1991 to 1996.
In 1997, he became Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral’s private secretary. After this, he worked in the Ministry of External Affairs, the Prime Minister’s Office, and multiple Indian missions overseas.
He was named Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s private secretary in 2012. When Singh was replaced by Narendra Modi, he remained in that position.

In 2014, he was named ambassador to Spain. In 2016, he was named ambassador to Myanmar.
He was named ambassador to China in 2019. During the 2020–2021 China–India conflict, he served as ambassador and met with Liu Jianchao and other top Chinese officials to discuss the tensions. On January 1, 2022, he was named the Deputy National Security Adviser (NSA).
It was declared on June 28, 2024, that Mr. Misri would take over as India’s Foreign Secretary in lieu of Vinay Mohan Kwatra. He was appointed India’s 35th Foreign Secretary on July 15, 2024.
