According to reports, the Indian Air Force officer involved in the incident was identified as Wing Commander Shiladitya Bose.

Bengaluru Police have also arrested the call centre employee Vinay Kumar for allegedly assaulting Indian Air Force (IAF) Wing Commander Shiladitya Bose, who is currently posted with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), following a road rage incident on Monday and at the time, he was accompanied by his wife, Squadron Leader Madhumita Dutta.

The altercation quickly escalated into a violent brawl, sparking all kinds of intense public scrutiny.
Vikas Kumar arrested in Bengaluru road-rage incident
Just recently, on April 18, 2024, police arrested a Bengaluru delivery worker named Vikas Kumar following an intense road-rage altercation. The incident involved an IAF Wing Commander named Shiladitya Bose and took place when he and his wife were en route from DRDO Colony in CV Raman Nagar to the airport. According to initial reports of the incident, the situation turned violent when Vikas on his motorcycle allegedly became aggressive and confrontational after noticing the DRDO sticker on Bose’s vehicle.

However, CCTV footage of the incident shows a more complex story despite both parties claiming to be victims. The footage shows Bose assaulting Kumar multiple times as bystanders struggled to intervene. According to an eyewitness, Bose hit Kumar repeatedly, “at least 30 times” to the point that the witness feared Kumar would die.
Official police statement
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) D. Devaraj, the incident had no linguistic or regional angle. He stated that:
It is a clear-cut case of road rage which could have been avoided by both sides. We are inspecting all available footage”.
The DCP also confirmed that Vikas Kumar used a key while striking Bose in the face. He further stated that Kumar has not filed a counter-complaint as of now, despite having the legal right to do so.
Shiladitya Bose’s video and statement
Following the incident, Shiladitya Bose uploaded a video to Instagram describing his harrowing experience and alleging that Kumar banged on their car before hurling abuses in Kannada and physically attacking him. He also shared how his wife, Squadron Leader Madhumita, was verbally abused before claiming that Kumar hit him with a key. Bose also alleged that another individual picked up a stone and struck his head. Bose then went on to express his frustration at the initial police response and concluded the video with the remark:
If law and order doesn’t help us, I will retaliate.”
Vikas Kumar bio and age
Vikas Kumar is a call center employee and part-time delivery partner who is currently based in Bengaluru and works with Swiggy. Although his exact age is not officially confirmed, he is likely in his late 20s to early 30s. Prior to the recent incident, he had no known prior criminal record and was reportedly working even at the time of the incident. His mother is named Jyoti.
Charges against Vikas Kumar
Police officials have reportedly arrested Vikas Kumar on assault charges following a complaint filed by Squadron Leader Madhumita. The FIR claims all kinds of charges, including reckless driving, verbal abuse, and physical assault with a stone and key. As of now, Kumar has not filed any counter-complaint against Bose. However, authorities have stated that they could file a case against Bose if Kumar chooses to come forward with his version of events.
