On Thursday, a former Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel was arrested for allegedly assaulting Congress MLA Rafiq Khan, after the latter reportedly left him waiting without addressing his grievances outside his residence in Jaipur.
Notably, the police reported that Khan was near his car outside his Banipark residence when Vikas Jakhar, a former CRPF assistant commandant, unexpectedly approached and assaulted him. However, supporters of Khan quickly intervened and retaliated against Jakhar. Recently, video capturing the altercation soon circulated on social media.

Rafiq Khan, born on 24 February 1966, is an Indian politician affiliated with the Indian National Congress. He currently holds the position of Chief Whip in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly and has represented the Adarsh Nagar Assembly constituency since 2018.

Khan later informed the police and turned Jakhar over to them, leading to Jakhar’s arrest. He is currently being questioned at the Sadar police station. It was revealed that Jakhar, a native of Jhunjhunu, had voluntarily retired from the CRPF and was honored with the Shaurya Chakra. According to DCP West Amit Kumar, Jakhar had resigned from the CRPF in 2021 after a paper leak incident and had previously organized a protest in his village in Jhunjhunu.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Jakhar’s frustration over being denied an audience with the MLA might have triggered the assault. Reports indicate that Jakhar, whose wife works as a health professional, had visited Khan’s residence to voice his concerns. However, after waiting for a considerable time without being acknowledged, Jakhar’s anger reportedly intensified, leading to the attack on Khan.
Vikas Jakhar, who alleged that the MLA had been harassing his wife, was caught and thrashed by people present at Khanโs home in Adarsh Nagar in Jaipur.
Khan recalled that during a public hearing, while he was conversing with some workers near his car, Jakhar suddenly grabbed him by the neck, attempted to strangle him, and struck him in the chest. His supporters managed to restrain Jakhar, and Khan speculated that Jakhar’s actions could be part of a larger conspiracy to harm him. The police are currently investigating the incident.
