Following the discovery of a potential conflict of interest in a $1 million loan he obtained for former UK prime minister Boris Johnson, Richard Sharp has resigned from his position as chairman of the BBC.
In a statement, Sharp said,
I have decided that it is right to prioritise the interests of the BBC. I have therefore, this morning, resigned as the BBC chair.
The public appointments watchdog opened an inquiry into Sharp’s conduct, which focused on the fact that he helped arrange the loan before being named chairman and failed to report it.
