Regretfully, Varad Sanjay Nerkar, an MTech final-year student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, was discovered dead in his dorm room on Thursday night, according to confirmation from the Delhi Police.

When Nerkar’s family was unable to get in touch with him, worries surfaced, and a friend broke down his door with the help of IIT campus security. A Delhi Police spokesperson stated that the inquiry is still ongoing after the crime squad performed an examination.

The student’s phone was not reachable to his family so a friend along with the security staff of IIT campus broke the door open. An inspection by the crime team has been done. Further investigation is underway.
The official added,
It is too soon to gather any details as of now. We only found out that this incident happened last night. As far as we know, the student had not approached anybody or the SC/ST cell to register a complaint or express concern regarding something bothering him.
In response to the heartbreaking news, Aditya Mittal, the dean of student affairs at IIT Delhi, sent an email to the student community, announcing a condolence meeting in the wake of Nerkar’s passing.

Varad Sanjay Nerkar was a final year student of Master in Technology (M. Tech.) in polymer science and technology at IIT Delhi.
At the time of his death, he was just 23 years old.
Nerkar, 23, was a native of Nashik, Maharashtra and the son of Sanjay Kasi nath Nerkar, he stayed in room number 757 at Dronagiri Hostel and Nerkar’s family members called him on Thursday night. When he did not answer the phone, the family members asked his hostel mates to check on him.

Why did he commit suicide?
The circumstances in which Varad Sanjay Nerkar committed suicide are still unclear. He had a strong academic record and had an impressive 8.8 grade. Via IIT Delhi placements, he had even landed a position with a big IT business, according to another IIT Delhi student who knew him.
