Who is Vanshaj Sharma?
Vanshaj Sharma is a young cricketer who hails from Jammu and Kashmir. The youngster recently shifted to Bihar and was a player of the state association. Sharma moved to Bihar and submitted an application to join the U-23 men’s squad from there.
As per the statement by Brigadier Anil Gupta, Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) chief, Sharma is not a JKCA player but currently plays for Bihar state. He further stated that they had him listed as an U19 player back in 20–21.
The officials said he was registered in 20-21 as a U-19 player, but he never played for JKCA and he re-enrolled himself as a player of Bihar Cricket Association as U-23 player with a different DOB, but he was caught by BCCI and banned for submitting multiple DOB certificates.
Since he was first registered by the JKCA in 2021–22, his data was available with the BCCI, and despite him having changed the association, he was caught submitting multiple birth certificates. After completing the two-year ban, the player can only participate in the senior men’s tournament conducted by the BCCl and will not be allowed to play in any age group tournaments of the cricket board but his real DOB isn’t known as of yet.
As per BCCI’s protocols, the board motivates those players who are already registered with them and have manipulated the birth date to come out with the correct date of birth certificate and if they do so, they will not face any ban and will be allowed to play age group cricket and this is called Voluntary Discloser Scheme.
