Crystal “Vanessa” Demopoulos was a pole dancer who also competed in professional MMA fights.
However, the 33-year-old has concluded that practicing for upcoming fights while lap-dancing for guys into the early hours of the morning is too much of a workload.
The strawweight, dubbed ‘Lil Monster,’ retired from pole dancing after 13 years to focus only on her most recent training camp, when she defeated competitor Silvana Juarez at UFC 270.
And the decision paid off, as Demopoulos, who stands 5 feet 2 inches tall, submitted Juarez in the first round with an armbar submission. On June 25, she will face Jinh Yu Frey.
Early Years:
Demopoulos was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in September 1989.
Prior to the family’s relocation to America, her parents and paternal grandparents raised her in Greece.
Vanessa’s mother had also been a dancer, so at the age of 20, she followed in her mother’s footsteps and became a pole dancer.
She said in an interview with Cageside Press on YouTube: “I followed in the footsteps of my forefathers and mothers. My father was a DJ and my mother was an entertainer, so they met that way. It was commonplace when I was a kid to talk about the clubs. My father taught me how to hustle when I became a performer. It was wonderful to receive that kind of help.”

Demopoulos’ pole dancing career has never been hidden from her fight fans.
“I don’t think it’s a secret, I was an exotic entertainment for 13 years,” she told MMA Junkie after her last successful fight against Juarez.
She told Combat Press that pole dancing aided her jiu-jitsu since it required agility.
