The Delhi Police revealed the identity of the driver involved in the recent Vasant Vihar hit-and-run case as Utsav Shekhar, a 40-year-old resident of Dwarka engaged in property dealings. Officials stated that Shekhar had been returning from Noida late on the night of July 8 when the incident occurred, and he was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time.

On July 13, 2025, Delhi Police released the photograph of a man identified as realtor, age 40 Utsav Shekhar, who ran over five people sleeping on a footpath in the Vasant Vihar area of Delhi. The incident took place at around 1:45 a.m. on July 9, when an Audi car hit the victims near the Indian Oil Petrol Pump in front of Shiva Camp.
According to a police statement: “On dated 09.07.2025 at 01:45 AM, a PCR call vide DD No.3A regarding accident near Indian Petrol Pump, in front of Shiva Camp, Vasant Vihar was received at PS Vasant Vihar. On reaching the spot, it came to notice that injured persons have been shifted to hospitals. All were sleeping on footpath.”
As per reports, the injured individuals were identified as Ladhi, age 40, Bimla, age 8, Sabami, age 45, Narayani, age 35, and Ramchander, age 45. All of them were residents of Rajasthan and were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. All five, originally from Rajasthan, sustained injuries when Shekhar’s speeding Audi ran over them. Delhi Police shared that Shekhar was arrested following the accident, and his photograph was released publicly on July 13.

They confirmed that a PCR call about the accident had been received at PS Vasant Vihar in the early hours, and by the time officers arrived at the scene, the victims had already been taken to a nearby hospital. The driver, Utsav Shekhar, a 40-year-old resident of Dwarka who worked in the property sector, was under the influence of alcohol at the time.
In statements given to ANI, two of the injured victims recounted the horror of the incident. Narayani mentioned that she, her husband, and children had been struck while asleep. She recalled losing consciousness and sustaining injuries to her chest and neck, noting that their family had been sleeping on that stretch of pavement for years. Ramchander, another injured individual, said the vehicle hit them without warning.
