Spencer Lee bio

Spencer Richard Lee is an American freestyle and former folkstyle wrestler who was born on October 14, 1998 in Denver, Colorado, United States. He is currently 25 years old and competes in the 57 kilograms category. Spencer was born to parents, Cathy Lee, and Larry Lee and has a sister named Gabrielle Lee. He is a member of Team USA’s wrestling team at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and will compete in the final of the 57kg weight group. Interestingly, Lee’s mother, Cathy, was an Olympic alternate judoka while his father, Larry, also played Judo.

Lee’s impressive career record is 98-6, with a 94.3 win percentage and 81.73% of bonus points won with him the top ranked wrestler in the US in his category.

He is in a relationship with former Mount Mercy Mustangs softball player, Emilee Bradley.

Education

Spencer Lee attended Franklin Regional Sr High School during his childhood, and later attended the University of Iowa. During his time in college with the Hawkeyes, Lee went 98-6 in matches, and 57-6 against ranked opponents.

Club

Over the years, Spencer Lee has been part of the Hawkeye Wrestling Club; Titan Mercury Wrestling Club; and Young Guns Wrestling Club.

Wrestling career

Before going pro, Spencer Lee wrestled collegiately at Iowa from 2017 through 2023. Throughout his six seasons with the Hawkeyes, Spencer finished with a career record of 98-6. This included a 58-match win streak starting from 2019 through 2023. Before competing at Iowa, Lee won a gold in the 50kg Cadets at the 2014 World Championship. During his time there, Spencer was a three-time NCAA champion (2017-18, 2018-19 and 2020-21)

Spencer went on to win the 2019 US National Championships as well as the 2023 edition in the 57kg event. Earlier this year, he won the 2024 Pan American Championships in Acapulco. In his road to the 2024 Paris Olympics, Lee had to compete at the World Olympic Games Qualifier in Istanbul. Lee took down No. 1-seeded Zou Wanhao of China in his second match before defeating Rakhat Kalzhan of Kazakhstan to secure his spot in Paris.
