A look at Monank Patel’s career
Monank represented Gujarat in both the under-16 and under-18 divisions. In 2010, Patel obtained a green card, and in 2016, he permanently relocated to the United States, residing in New Jersey. Since 2018, he has been a right-handed top-order batsman and wicket-keeper for the United States.
He was included in the American team in August 2018 for the Morrisville, North Carolina, ICC World Twenty20 Americas Qualifier competition. His name was added to the US team in October 2018 for the West Indies 2018–19 Regional Super50 competition.
He made his List A debut on October 6, 2018, versus Combined Campuses and Colleges for the United States. He was included in the US side for the 2018 ICC World Cricket League Division Three competition in Oman later that month.
He was included in the United States Twenty20 International (T20I) roster for their series against the United Arab Emirates in February 2019. On March 15, 2019, he played in his first T20I match for the United States against the United Arab Emirates.
For the 2019 ICC World Cricket League Division Two competition in Namibia, he was selected for the U.S. cricket team’s roster in April 2019. On April 27, 2019, he participated in the third-place playoff for the tournament against Papua New Guinea, his first-ever ODI for the United States.
His exceptional performances include being the leading run-scorer in the 2018–19 ICC World Twenty20 Americas Qualifier tournament, where he amassed 208 runs in six matches and further establishing his prowess, Patel made history in the 2018–19 Regional Super50 tournament in the West Indies by scoring the first century by an American batsman. He concluded the competition as the leading run-scorer for the United States, tallying 290 runs in 7 matches.
