The 27-year-old, Muhammed Gufran, was gunned down by Uttar Pradesh’s Special Task Force today. The incident occurred in the state’s Kaushambi district on Tuesday morning. 

Over the past several years, Gufran has been accused in numerous murder and dacoity cases in Pratapgarh and Sultanpur districts. He hailed from Mohalla Azad Nagar in Pratapgarh district. In order to capture Muhammed Gufran, the police offered a reward of Rs. 1,25,000 lakh.

Gurfan was wanted in over 13 criminal cases, of which seven cases were of murder and was also accused of dacoity and loot. He operated in Pratapgarh and Sultanpur districts for years.

Gufran’s Encounter by the Special Task Force

A raid was conducted near the Samda sugar mill in Manjhanpur around 5 a.m. by the Superintendent of Police (SP), Brijesh Srivastava. The police retaliated after Gufran opened fire on the special task force. 

During the exchange of fire, Gufran sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital, eventually succumbing to death. 

Dharmesh Kumar Shahi, Deputy Superintendent of Police, STF, said, “Lucknow STF has conducted an encounter in Samda region this morning. A gangster was shot during the incident and died while he was undergoing treatment. He has been recognised as Gufran who is a prominent criminal. According to information obtained, there are 13 instances of murder and looting in Pratapgarh police station against him, and a reward of Rs. 1,25,000 was placed on him.”

This is the latest in a series of interactions between the UP Police and criminals. Since Yogi Adityanath became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 2017, there have been over 10,900 encounters in which more than 185 criminals and gangsters have been slain.

Four days ago, gangster Anil Dujana was also encountered by the STF police. And not to forget Umesh Pal’s murder case, which created a sensation in Uttar Pradesh. The accused in Pal’s case, Asad, who was the son of former MP and gangster Atiq Ahmed was killed in the exchange of fire by the Gulham police. In the encounter, one more accused was killed alongside Asad. Additionally, gangster Atiq Ahmed and his brother were killed by three men.
