Hurley excelled as a basketball player at Jersey City’s St. Anthony High School, where his father had served as the longstanding coach. During his senior year, he guided the team to a 31-3 record and the No. 2 national rating. He was a college basketball player for five years at Seton Hall.
During his tenure as head coach of Saint Benedict’s Preparatory institution (2001โ2010), Hurley is renowned for having transformed the New Jersey institution into one of the nation’s best high school basketball programmes.
