In addition to publishing the footage without the woman dancer’s permission, Prateek Aryan is coming under fire for disparaging remarks he made about her. Shruti Parija, the woman, urged Aryan several times to take down the video, but he stubbornly refused, so Shruti had to call the police for help.

As Aryan posted a video of Shruti dancing at a college function and said, “Indian schools and colleges are well known for organizing “Sanskritik karyakram” and performances based on traditional and regional culture, but now it has become a “kotha.” In the name of cultural events, shaking booty on item songs is all they call a cultural program. Along with the education system, the cultural system is in danger in India. What a downfall for this generation and colleges in India.”

Soon, Shruti urged Prateek to take the video down
After it was posted on February 13, the post soon gained popularity as many condemned Aryan for making derogatory comments regarding someone’s artistic expression. After two days, Shruti identified herself as the woman in the video, which had received over 25 lakh views, and claimed that she had not permitted the video to be republished.

She urged Pratik to take the video down, making it clear that she was a professional performer and not a student at the college. Shruti emphasized that even though Prateek had the right to express what was right and wrong, not to the extent of defaming her since she was not even connected to the college. While Prateek is a medical student and a gym freak, nothing else is known about him.
In response, Aryan insisted that his remarks weren’t directly meant at Shruti but rather at Indian colleges and schools in general. He said he made it clear that he talked about Indian universities and schools, and in no way had he slut-shamed Shurti, as she claimed. He stated he did not name her anywhere since he said in the second line that dancing to item tunes was being done under the pretence of a cultural event.
Regarding the college system publishing Shruti’s video, he expressed his broad views. He urged everyone to read the original tweet statement again and consider whether he stated anything offensive about you. He then said that Shruti and her friend had used “violent speech, threatened legal action, and mentioned putting him behind bars.”

But Shruti stuck to her guns, tagging the Mumbai Police’s “X” handle and declaring that Aaryan had refused to remove the video despite her repeated demands.
Shruti tweeted that she had repeatedly asked Prateek Aaryan to remove her video from his post, where he compared the stage she danced on to a kotha, thereby damaging her reputation. However, he had refused to comply and had blackmailed her instead. In response to her post, the police asked for her contact information so they could talk further about the situation.
On Sunday, February 18, Shruti who is a choreographer gave an update, saying that a copyright claim had made the video invisible, although some people might still be able to view it. A legal update from her end is still awaited.
