Nickisha Pryce led three Arkansas Razorback competitors to a sweep in the women’s 400 metres at the SEC Championships, concluding in 49.32, the second-fastest time in the collegiate division and second-fastest time in Jamaican history.
She also improved her ranking on the Jamaican women’s 400-meter all-time list by six places, going from 14th to 8th. She ended just below Novlene Williams-Mills but ahead of Sandie Richards.

She defeated Athing Mu’s record as the youngest American middle-distance sprinter in a matter of seconds. She was now guaranteed a place in the top three in college history with this.
Who is Nickisha Pryce?
Nickisha Pryce is a Jamaican track and field athlete who was born on March 7, 2001. The 23-year-old, over 400m became the Jamaican National Champion in 2023.
She attended the Vere Technical High School in Hayes, Jamaica, before enrolling at the Iowa Western Community College and the University of Arkansas.
Nickisha Pryce has clinched several triumphs and made records before her most recent achievement. The 2021 ICCAC Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year was Pryce, who had won the award for the indoor season the year before.
She ran the 400 metres in a personal best time of 50.23 seconds to finish third behind Rhasidat Adeleke and Britton Wilson at the 2023 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Austin, Texas.
Pryce won the Jamaican national 400-meter title in July 2023 after defeating Janieve Russell and Candice McLeod.
With a new best time of 50.21 seconds, she accomplished her goal. In addition to qualifying quickest in the heats, Pryce had the fastest time of the year going into the competition. Some of her personal bests include, 200m: 23.12 (Baton Rouge, 2023); 400m: 50.21 (Kingston, 2023).
Recently, at the South-Eastern Conference (SEC) Outdoor Championships on Percy Beard Track inside James Pressly Stadium at University of Florida on Friday, Pryce of University of Arkansas led the women’s 400-meter qualifying with a time that set a world record and a personal best of 49.72 seconds.
