Officials confirmed on Friday that Fred Kerley, the former world 100-meter champion, has withdrawn from this weekend’s Grand Slam Track meeting in Miami following his arrest for violence against Alaysha Johnson.

At a hotel in Dania Beach, Florida, Fred Kerley, who was scheduled to perform at the Grand Slam Track event, reportedly struck his ex-girlfriend in the face. Kerley allegedly assaulted another Olympic sprinter, Alaysha Johnson, his ex-girlfriend.
He was arrested after his ex-girlfriend, Olympian Alaysha Johnson says Kerley hit her in the face with a closed fist while Kerley’s camp claims Johnson was actually hit by her current boyfriend as he fought Fred.
At 7:48 p.m. on Thursday, Kerley was taken into custody at the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. According to the police complaint by Alaysha Johnson, she ran into Kerley at the hotel where she was scheduled to see her conditioning coach. Police determined that Johnson’s injuries were consistent with her story, and he was charged with one count of battery-touch or strike. Beginning in early 2024, Kerley and Johnson’s romance lasted six months until ending in October of the same year.

The 28-year-old hurdler Alaysha Johnson hails from Houston, Texas and was born on July 20, 1996 with her height at 1.6m. In the 100-meter hurdles, she competes. She won the 2013 Gatorade Texas Track and Field Athlete of the Year award while starting her track career at Spring High School.
Johnson later competed for the University of Oregon, where he broke a school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 12.69 seconds and was named an All-American seven times. She continued to succeed on the track after transferring to Texas Tech University. Morgan David Wells, a former hurdler and sprint specialist at LSU, is Johnson’s coach. Away from the track, she is attending the University of Oregon to earn a master’s degree in sociology.
Alaysha was raised by a single mother and had a difficult upbringing and has two brothers, and they were often separated from each other due to financial constraints. Her mother worked two jobs throughout her life and Alaysha started running track to provide her mom with some respite from caring for the children.
Alaysha was in a relationship with fellow Olympian Fred Kerley, an accomplished sprinter in his own right, for approximately six months in 2024 but their relationship ended in October of the same year.
In addition to being an eight-time All-American, Alaysha Johnson has won two Pac-12 Conference titles, been named an All-Pac-12 Conference distinction five times, finished third in the Big 12 Conference three times, and finished second in the MPSF Indoor Track and Field Championships three times.
With a time of 12.69 seconds in 2017, Johnson is the best 100-meter hurdler in Oregon Ducks Track and Field history. She also placed in the top 10 for the 400-meter hurdles. Her current net worth stands at $1 million.

According to Johnson’s police complaint against Kerley, the two-time Olympian got into a fight with her and screamed something like, “I’m going to f*ck everyone up in here.”
She claimed that Kerley had hit her once in the face, resulting in bleeding from her nose. Officers observed that Johnson’s injuries aligned with her version of events, according to the police report.
