In 1960, Tony (Anthony) Hughes was born. He lost his hearing permanently as a newborn due to the side effects of the drugs given to him as a child.
In order to attend college and seek a career as a model in the fashion industry, Hughes, an aspirant model, moved to Madison. According to the Netflix film, he struggled to obtain employment due to his impairment and eventually found work at a clothing store where he used sign language to communicate with his management.
Hughes frequented homosexual bars and self-identified as gay.

Anthony Hughes and the murderer Jeffrey Dahmer first met in a Milwaukee homosexual bar in May 1991. Dahmer has a history of seducing his victims with the promise of sex and sexual favours. Hughes, who was 31 at the time, reportedly gave his permission for Dahmer to go home with him.
It’s thought that Dahmer wrote down his request for a nudist photo session. Dahmer poisoned him once he was inside before strangling him to death. Dahmer’s skull is said to have been left behind after his body was acid-dissolved.

According to reports, Tony engaged customers by writing on a notepad at the gay pub where the two first met. He had used the same method of communication to talk to his final killer, Jeffrey Dahmer.
Although it’s not entirely clear how much of the episode is based on actual events and how much has been imagined, the show describes how the two first grew attracted to one another and even depicts Jeffrey attending some of Hughes’ picture sessions.

Even in the series, there are few details about Tony’s murder by Jeffrey Dahmer.
Hughes, 31, vanished on May 31, 1991, but according to FBI documents, he hadn’t been seen since May 24, when friends last saw him at the “219-Club.” His remains, including his skull and vertebrae, were found in Dahmer’s apartment along with the remains of numerous other victims two months later, in July 1991.
The first way to locate Tony was in his dental records. And his mother learned of his passing in the first few days of July.
“I felt I was going to lose my mind when it initially happened,โฒโฒ his mother Shirley Hughes told The Associated Press in 1992. She said in another interview, “I only begged and pleaded with the Lord to reveal my son’s location. I merely wanted to know whether he was alive or not.”

According to History, Jeffrey later admitted to killing Tony and was given 15 consecutive life sentences in 1992. For the killing of Tony and 14 other people. Between 1978 and 1991, Jeffrey killed a total of 17 men and teenagers.
Two years after his sentencing, Jeffrey was murdered by another inmate.
