His full name is Thomas Charles Werner. He was born in New York City, New York, on April 12, 1950. He was born into a Jewish family. His mother’s name is Elizabeth, and his father’s name is Henry Werner. He also has two siblings: one sister, Patsy Werner Hanson, and one brother, Peter Werner.
He did his schooling at St. Bernard’s School in Manhattan and Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Connecticut. He later graduated from Harvard University in 1971.
