Tiffany Slaton survives 24 days alone in the Sierra Mountains
Jeffersonville native Tiffany Slaton recently managed to survive 24 harrowing days in the Sierra Mountains after initially going missing. Slaton initially went out on a three-day solo camping trip back on April 20. She was out carrying just her electric bike, a tent, and two sleeping bags. However, Tiffany’s trip quickly turned into a fight for survival after she fell from a cliff. Following the fall, she was left unconscious for about two hours.
After regaining consciousness, she made a splint for one injured leg and forced her dislocated knee back into place. Since she had no cell signal, she failed to make repeated attempts to call 911, and despite her injuries, Tiffany pressed on through 13 snowstorms and even survived an avalanche. Tiffany reportedly lost her tent, bike, and most of her gear, but kept going with no map or working GPS.
She reportedly had to hike for over 40 miles off course before eventually reaching the remote Vermilion Valley Resort. Tiffany’s family initially reported her missing back on April 29, and had nearly lost hope of ever finding her. After authorities found her, Tiffany’s father, Bobby, told NBC News how she called him and said:
Dad, I’m alive, and I’m sorry.”
