The Athletic reports that it has since come to light that he was being looked into for both a probable child s*x offence and an alleged rape by a different police unit at the same time. This relates to an alleged offence committed in the 1990s against a person identified as “Woman B,” but due to a legal quirk, the accuser was informed that she had delayed filing a report for too long.
According to The Athletic, ‘Woman B’, who was 15 at the time, has not been the subject of any additional action. The case involving “Woman A,” for which the Premier League figure was examined in June, is still under police investigation.
Official statement
“The Met received a crime report relating to a long-standing rape allegation on Thursday, September 23, 2021. A male was interviewed on Monday, June 12 under caution,” according to a Metropolitan Police statement obtained by The Athletic.
Woman A, the subject of the aforementioned declaration, was a minor when the alleged offence allegedly occurred. Her precise age at the time hasn’t been disclosed, though.
A different police unit had jurisdiction over the alleged crime that included Woman B. However, suspected crimes between 1956 and 2004 when the claimed victim was a girl between the ages of 13 and 15 must have been reported within a year in accordance with the S*xual Offences Act of 1956.
“Following a complex initial investigation and consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, no arrests were made and no prosecution was pursued,” stated a statement from the police department involved in Woman B’s case. “No investigation is ever completed, and the investigation may be reevaluated if new lines of inquiry are found.”
Statement from the FA
A statement from the Football Association has also been published by The Athletic. In accordance with its protection protocols, the organisation has the authority to suspend persons suspected of child offences.
However, the FA looks into and weighs all claims and worries about people who might endanger kids and adults playing football, and, when necessary, can impose proportional safeguarding measures in line with FA safeguarding laws.
